Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 5:47PM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA At 546 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Virginia Commonwealth University to near Highland Springs. Movement was northeast at 15 mph. Winds in excess of 40 to 50 mph are possible with these storms. These storms will be near... Richmond, Mechanicsville, Highland Springs, and East Highland Park around 550 PM EDT. Other locations impacted by these storms include Richmond International, Fair Oaks, Chamberlayne, Richmond Heights, Varina, Orapax Farms, Elko, Montrose, Sandston, and Glendale. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
