Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued May 15 at 1:12PM EDT until May 15 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 245 IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN NORTH CAROLINA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 7 COUNTIES IN EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA CARTERET CRAVEN DUPLIN JONES LENOIR ONSLOW PAMLICO THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ARAPAHOE, ATLANTIC BEACH, EMERALD ISLE, BAYBORO, BEAUFORT, BEULAVILLE, COVE CITY, FAISON, HAVELOCK, JACKSONVILLE, KENANSVILLE, KINSTON, LA GRANGE, MAYSVILLE, MOREHEAD CITY, NEW BERN, NEWPORT, NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, ORIENTAL, PINK HILL, POLLOCKSVILLE, RICHLANDS, SWANSBORO, TRENTON, VANCEBORO, VANDEMERE, WALLACE, AND WARSAW.

Beach Hazards Statement issued May 15 at 9:39AM EDT until May 15 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC * WHAT...Dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...The beaches from Cape Hatteras to Surf City. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide, which occurred around 8:30 AM this morning. Life-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remain calm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired, float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
