Flood Advisory issued July 19 at 11:51PM EDT until July 20 at 4:00AM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central North Carolina, including the following counties, Anson, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Scotland and Stanly. * WHEN...Until 400 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1147 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a large area of showers and thunderstorms causing heavy rainfall. Many locations across the Sandhills have seen intermittent periods of heavy rain since late Sunday evening, and this is likely to continue through the early morning hours. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen since 8 PM Sunday. Minor flooding is expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area through 4 AM Monday. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Laurinburg, Southern Pines, Rockingham, Wadesboro, Raeford, Carthage, Pinehurst, Hamlet, Aberdeen, Biscoe, Ansonville, Hoffman, Antioch, Polkton, Locust, Whispering Pines, Norwood, Oakboro, Stanfield and Pinebluff. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
