Special Weather Statement issued July 18 at 4:43PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 443 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near East Bend to near Mocksville. Movement was northeast at 40 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Winston-Salem, Thomasville, Kernersville, Clemmons, Bermuda Run, Huntsville, Lewisville, Walkertown, Rural Hall, and Pfafftown. This includes the following highways... Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 182 and 204. Interstate 74 between Mile Markers 56 and 64. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for central North Carolina.
