High Wind Warning issued June 18 at 12:47AM EDT until June 18 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Buffalo NY * WHAT...Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected. * WHERE...Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, and Chautauqua Counties. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will blow down trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Fully leafed out trees will result in more tree damage than with similar wind speeds during the colder months of the year. Avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

HAZARD...Brief, torrential downpours and ponding of water in poor drainage areas. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Brief, heavy downpours will impact the morning commute across the Buffalo Metro area with reduced visibility and ponding of water in poor drainage areas. Locations impacted include... Buffalo, Cheektowaga, West Seneca, North Tonawanda, Clarence, Lockport, Lackawanna, Kenmore, Depew, Tonawanda, Amherst, Lancaster, Williamsville, Grand Island, Pendleton, Akron, Blasdell, and Middleport. This includes Interstate 90 between exits 49 and 55. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Northern Erie County in western New York... * Until 1045 AM EDT. * At 747 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.75 and 1.25 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Buffalo, Cheektowaga, West Seneca, Clarence, Lackawanna, Kenmore, Depew, Amherst, Tonawanda, Lancaster, Williamsville, Akron, Small Boat Harbor, Erie Basin Marina, Blasdell and Clarence Center.
