Boaters on Fort Peck Lake should use extra caution since strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft.

Special Weather Statement issued May 17 at 5:11PM MDT by NWS Glasgow MT At 510 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles south of Poplar to 10 miles south of Hillside. Movement was east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Glendive, Circle, Terry, Fallon, Richey, Bloomfield, West Glendive, Brockway, Hillside, Flowing Wells Rest Area, Vida, Lindsay, Hoyt, Zero, Enid, Mccloud, Mildred, Weldon, Calypso, and Crow Rock. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM MDT for northeastern Montana.
