West Central Orleans Parish in southeastern Louisiana... * Until 430 PM CDT. * At 131 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... New Orleans, Metairie, Avondale, Marrero, Harvey, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Bridge City, Elmwood and River Ridge. This includes the following streams and drainages... Mississippi River. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Lake Maurepas... Lake Pontchartrain... * Until 300 PM CDT. * At 122 PM CDT, a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts was located along a line extending from near Kenner to 10 nm west of Lake Borgne, moving northwest at 15 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts to 40 knots. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include... Madisonville, Manchac, Lake Pontchartrain/Lake Maurepas, Orleans Marina, Lake Maurepas, Mandeville, The Mid Point Of The Causeway Bridge, Kenner, Eden Isle, and Lacombe. Strong winds will be dangerous for boaters or anyone near the water. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Seek shelter or move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes. Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects. Report severe weather to the Coast Guard or the National Weather Service.
