Special Weather Statement issued July 11 at 1:35PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 135 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms capable of producing funnel clouds along a line extending from near Killona to near Metairie to near Arabi. Movement was north at 20 mph. HAZARD...Funnel clouds and winds in excess of 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...If a funnel cloud briefly touches down, minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... New Orleans, Kenner, Reserve, Chalmette, Metairie, Hahnville, Laplace, East New Orleans, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Montz, Garyville, River Ridge, Ama, Destrehan, St. Rose, Killona, Norco, and Elmwood. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 195 and 251. Interstate 55 in Louisiana between mile markers 1 and 12. Interstate 310 between mile markers 1 and 7. Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 3. Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service office in New Orleans. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

West Central Orleans Parish in southeastern Louisiana... * Until 430 PM CDT. * At 131 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... New Orleans, Metairie, Avondale, Marrero, Harvey, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Bridge City, Elmwood and River Ridge. This includes the following streams and drainages... Mississippi River. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
