Special Weather Statement issued July 11 at 12:49PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 1248 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Meraux to near Avondale. Movement was northwest at 5 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... New Orleans, Kenner, Chalmette, Avondale, Metairie, Marrero, Harvey, East New Orleans, Timberlane, Belle Chasse, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Jean Lafitte, Poydras, River Ridge, Estelle, Woodmere, and Elmwood. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 222 and 256. Interstate 510 between mile markers 1 and 3. Interstate 610 between mile markers 1 and 4. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

West Central St. Bernard Parish in southeastern Louisiana... * Until 415 PM CDT. * At 120 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... New Orleans, Kenner, Metairie, Marrero, Harvey, Avondale, Timberlane, Chalmette, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego, Bridge City, Elmwood, Terrytown, River Ridge, Arabi, Woodmere and Waggaman.
