Special Weather Statement issued May 13 at 11:00AM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK A strong weather front will begin to impact the west coast Tuesday afternoon. Southerly winds could gust between 30 and 55 mph and there could be near Blizzard conditions on Saint Lawrence Island and the Bering Strait. The strongest winds and lowest visibility are expected in the Bering Strait and Saint Lawrence Island. Snow and strong winds will develop over the Seward Penninsula, Yukon Delta coast and Northwest Alaska Tuesday evening into Wednesday. There is the possibility of mixed precipitation along the coast as well as elevated surf impacts for Eastern Norton Sound and along the Yukon Delta coast. Chances for precip will continue into Thursday. Residents near the coast should be vigilant of these potential impacts and stay tuned to the latest forecast updates at www.weather.gov/afg

Winter Weather Advisory issued May 13 at 2:15PM AKDT until May 15 at 6:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK * WHAT...Snow and Blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, heaviest accumulations in the mountains. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Visibility one half mile at times. * WHERE...Southern Seward Peninsula Coast and Interior Seward Peninsula. * WHEN...From 10 PM Tuesday to 6 PM AKDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A 2 to 4 foot water level rise may push water over the shorefast ice. Ice pans may make it on to some beaches with persistent southerly winds. Snow may mix with rain at Nome on Wednesday. Slow down and use caution while traveling.
