Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued July 2 at 1:41PM CDT until July 2 at 8:00PM CDT by NWS Huntsville AL THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 438 IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN ALABAMA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 11 COUNTIES IN NORTH CENTRAL ALABAMA CULLMAN LIMESTONE MADISON MORGAN IN NORTHEAST ALABAMA DEKALB JACKSON MARSHALL IN NORTHWEST ALABAMA COLBERT FRANKLIN AL LAUDERDALE LAWRENCE IN TENNESSEE THIS WATCH INCLUDES 3 COUNTIES IN SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE FRANKLIN LINCOLN MOORE THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALBERTVILLE, ARAB, ATHENS, BOAZ, COWAN, CULLMAN, DECATUR, DECHERD, ESTILL SPRINGS, FAYETTEVILLE, FLORENCE, FORT PAYNE, GUNTERSVILLE, HUNTSVILLE, LYNCHBURG, MOULTON, MUSCLE SHOALS, RAINSVILLE, RED BAY, RUSSELLVILLE, SCOTTSBORO, SEWANEE, SHEFFIELD, TOWN CREEK, TUSCUMBIA, AND WINCHESTER.

Extreme Heat Warning issued July 2 at 11:09AM CDT until July 2 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Huntsville AL * WHAT...For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 115. For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 109 expected. * WHERE...Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. * WHEN...For the Extreme Heat Warning, until 7 PM CDT this evening. For the Heat Advisory, from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM CDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued July 2 at 3:15PM CDT by NWS Huntsville AL At 314 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Geraldine, or 12 miles southwest of Rainsville. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea to dime size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Albertville, Boaz, Guntersville, Crossville, Geraldine, Lakeview, McVille, Hopewell, Skirum, and Lake Guntersville St Park. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM CDT for northeastern Alabama.
